Guided Hourly Tours

Hourly guided tours are given of the church building and 43-acre historic site. Tours begin in the Welcome Center’s store the “Shop at The Old Brick Church” at the top of each hour. First tour is either 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. and the last tour of the day begins at 4 p.m. Tours are 45-minutes in length and cover over 481 years of the history.  Guests will learn about an array of topics such as:

  • Origins of the Anglican Church under Henry VIII
  • Introduction of Anglicanism and Protestanism to the New World
  • Newport Parish and Old Brick Church history between 1629 and 1777
  • 19th century Protestant Episcopal Church of America and moving the congregation in 1836
  • The 1880s/1890s restoration and the 1950s restoration of the church building
  • How the experience during the Colonial Period led forefathers to incorporate Freedom of Religion and Separation of Church and State in the US Constitution
  • Why and how freedom of religion remains a vibrant part of American identity and discourse into the modern era
